Pave My Front Garden On The Cheap
Kimberley
My front garden is all grass and weeds
people throw rubbish in my garden also, i live on a main road.
I'm fed up with cutting it, de weeding it and clearing up the mess other unconsiderate people have left.
If i pave it, it will get rid of my weeds and make it easier for me to clear peoples mess up.
What is the best way to do it? Obviously i will have to pay people to do it, but what sort of paving should i go for?

We have exactly the same problem!
We have decided to dig up the grass to make it level put down some weed membrane then buy some nice gravel/slate chippings to put down instead. We've worked out this will be much cheaper as we can do it ourselves and don't have to worry about having the ground compacted and leveled as the gravel is self levelling.
Probably stick a nice palm plant type thing in a pot to make it look a bit more interesting. :T:smileyhea0 -
Hello Kimberley
I'll move your thread over to the 'In my home' board, where it should get more views and responses.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. One tip worth saying is when you have your gravel/chipping delivered is order in 1 ton bags, and when the delivery wagon comes, he will unload them with his Hi-Ab(little crane)get your weed membrane down before, and then just ask him to move the bags above where you want them and just split the bottom of the bags with a knife. You can then just spead them, much easier.
Hope this helps, no need to thank me. lol0 -

We had them in our back garden in our old house and they looked good. We bought some that were in the builders bit in B&Q, the ones they sell in the ornamental bit of the gardening section were much dearer. They were more like little pebbles than chips of rock IYSWIM and were all different gold, yellow and buff colours. We used them with some buff/goldy coloured riven paving slabs that were supposed to look like stepping stones.Do the chippings look nice?:smileyhea0
