Please check FAQ's which is a sticky at the top of this board. It has a few links to threads where subjects have been previously discussed and has some great info on Internet Security and Viruses.
    Torgwen.......... :) ...........

Using two firewalls on the same connection could cause issues with connectivity to the Internet or other unexpected behavior. One firewall, whether it is the Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall or a different software firewall, can provide substantial protection for your computer.

Thanks for your reply, Rex. So would I be better off turning my XP firewall off or uninstalling my Kerio Personal Firewall? Doing either of these is not going to easy for me to do but I trust your advice!!

I've been told by techie people that the XP firewall (+ SP2) is a very good one BUT I like Kerio PF and (touch wood) and have never had a single virus/trojan since installing it, just over a year ago. I don't put this entirely down to Kerio, I'm very consious what I download and click on but I have noticed Kerio stopping a lot things like people attempting to access my PC etc on the network useful.

Out of interest, what is the best free Anti-Virus software out there? I used to use Norton SystemWorks but I found it too system-resource-heavy. I now use McAfee Virus Scan, as it's provided free from my university ;-) but I don't like it very much.

I have had probs. with my PC recently and the tech. who came to fix it thought it was the Kerio PF. Anyway if you do decide to delete it, let me know if you are successful, I had a terrible job, and still haven't got rid of it completely. (See my post "How do I uninstall Kerio PF"), Then downloaded Zone Alarm, but when I went to update it , it told me it was a no go as I still had Kerio installed. Now running on Sygate, but not sure if that is as good. My tech. bloke recommemded Firefox as well, so when I am feeling confident will give it a try. Were computers and the Internet ever simple ? :(

LOL.....Thats a good one. XP firewall is better than no firewall, but coming from a company that is renowned for shipping out products with more holes than swiss cheese, I would chose a third party firewall any day of the week.

There are a few choices out there for free antivirus. I keep coming accross Anti Vir. This seems to get good reviews from users. I cant vouch for it myself as I use Norton.

Have a look HERE at a comparison chart of different antivirus programs. Anti Vir seems to do well. There is a small review of this HERE

I'm sure a few others can recommend different free products that they use.

Sorry Loft, I really like Kerio PF and don't plan to get rid of it. I have turned the Windows XP firewall off though, in case it interferes with Kerio.
