Plant growing through wall!!!
We moved into a "new" house about a year ago which was built around 1910 and is in a conservation area.
Up the back of the house are a number of climbers - pic: http://i26.tinypic.com/mcvy9h.jpg and http://i31.tinypic.com/r9r7s7.jpg
Yesterday however I suddenly noticed a plant starting to grow up the internal side of the wall in the back guest bedroom!!!

Anyone know what type of plant it is?
What should I do?! Apply weedkiller to the whole back of the house though woudl mean losing some of the rustic / cottage look? Just to the plant in the bedroom?
HELP!!!

It looks rather like a Clematis montana, but I can't be sure. It grows rather quickly and is sometimes called "Mile a Minute Plant".
Can you get ladders up the wall on the outside? You could look for the hole where it disappears through the wall and just pull it out or break it off, then fill the hole.
There is no need to resort to using weedkiller.0 -

Russian vine is also known as mile a minute bush, I've never known a Clematis be reffered to as such.
You certainly have something very invasive. Larger pictures of the leaf might help with identification.0 -
Looks like a cotoneaster at the bottom of the outside of the house (dont grow too high) and a clematis montana as Gebo26 previously said growing up and in.
Methinks heavy pruning in order. Robust plant so take right back to a couple of feet from ground level if you like. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

I've seen this on a tv programme a few years back ....very invasive. Commonly known as TRIFFIDS :eek:
Treat with sea water, but stand well back!!:rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Yes, it's a Clematis montana. Good news is that it's not a clinging wall breaker like ivy, bad news is that it is a fast growing plant and will get everywhere given half a chance. Cut it down to head hight or even less, find the hole, fill it and the Montana will grow again.Val.0
