PS3 problems with online

My boy has a PS3 which he plays online with his friends it was working fine last night, but now it just seems to freeze when he tries to log in.

His friend told him to turn off the wireless router (which he did), and he tried to play the playstation without the internet connected and it worked. he then turned the internet back on, and again it froze at the log in details. the internet is working fine on the PC and the lap top, and my husband has a playstation too (boys and their toys eh :rolleyes:), and his playstation is working fine.

Ive tried to look at the playstation website to see if there is anything on there that can help us, but, im afraid when it comes to playstations and online i havent got a clue and my husband is working away at the moment.

Can anyone give me any advice. I dont know if it is a problem that can be sorted or if its on its last legs.

this happened to mine one day i just left it till the next day and it worked fine, im fairly good with tech but it stumped me. i later found out that an update had been released so the ps3 was trying to bring up the message telling me so but couldnt for some odd reason. But the next day i downloaded the update fine.

consider downloading the update to one of your pc's and onto a memory stick?

the last ps3 update was not too long ago to my recollection so maybe he hasnt played since then?

firmware 3.0 will be coming out on the 1st sept, so just bear in mind that it may do the same thing then

like i said happened to me once, done 1-2 updates since with no issues

btw dont suppose if you know if 3.0 disables the use of linux as another os on all systems? i know second os support isnt on the slimline but it wasnt clear if it was dues to the new console or firmware 3.0 itself.

i'm pretty sure that its only on the (featureless ) Slimline PS3.
