Digibox or Freeview?

Getting rid of Sky this month (getting work done on the house so looking for savings) Anyway, I was wondering if I should just keep the digibox or should I replace it with a Freeview box. Is there a one off fee to pay Sky, and will I get all the Freeview channels with the Digibox?
Thanks in advance.:T

You don't need to pay anything to Sky. You will get most of the freeview channels through Satellite plus some others. Take your card out and you you will see what you are left with. Ch4, CH5 and Sky3 need a viewing card but your existing card should work for these even when you stop your subscription (note that sky will probably try to charge you £20 for this, but you don't need to pay it - card should work automatically). There are a few Freeview channels you can't get of Free Sat. THe ones I remember are E4 and More40

Should check if freeview is available in your area. Even then not all channels may be available go to https://www.freeview.com or https://www.bbc.co.uk/digital and enter your post code to check. You may also have to upgrade your TV Aerial to receive freeview.
I am on the fringe here, unlikely to get decent freeview reception until around 2012 when the switch over completes, from what I have read the power of digital transmitters can then be increased without causing interference, as old transmitters are switched off.
If possible find someone in your area already with freeview, and check the reception before you consider the switch over, and see if they needed to upgrade the aerial.0 -
Thanks for that. I,ll try Free Sat first and see what I can get. Checked my postcode and it looks like I am ok for getting all the free channels. If I need a freeview box I know what website to check out to give me details of the best deals on one!

you can always have both - provided you have 2 tv scarts of course. Don't fall into the trap of just buying the cheapest freeview box. They differ widely in quality and there are plenty of reviews on the net0
