    Hi

I was just looking at the Mind website and found this about advocacy http://www.mind.org.uk/help/rights_and_legislation/mind_guide_to_advocacy
  • First Thank you all for your kind help.... It's been a while since I have posted anything mainly because I have not been well the stress is starting to take it toll on me, and my manic depression is getting worse though Im hiding it from my mum.
I have been trying hard to ring the CCCS dro line for help but its always engaged, one of the advisors said they would be in touch but havent heard from them.

I started this months ago and was hoping by now i would be on my way to being debt free but i can never see that happening. I was told it will take me 40 years to get my current debt paid off at the rate im going, thats with no money and more debt from being overdrawn all the time. thats if i ever manage to pay it off.

I never thought a an illness you cant see could have got me this far down the ladder.

Im struggling really dont go out at all anymore and tend to lock myself away in my room as most of the time my depression is now so bad I dont even want to wake up in the mornings as im waiting for another bill or another charge from the bank..

I was told by CCCS that a DRO was the thing for me but its so complicated and so many rules I do not even know if its worth me trying anymore. I did think about going to see an accountant who used to live near me for help, but cant see what he could do.
I still have to change some of the direct debits over to my new account but Im been feeling so tired and bad and im not sleeping that I just havent been up to it,

And with Christmas coming well i not looking forward to that, In fact Im worried sick.
I really do not know what to do know as the debt mounts and it will be another year maybe before im accepted for a DRO thats if im accepted, but with my luck i doubt it.
So my options seem to be getting less and well not sure what to do know about anything
Just wanted to say thank you all for trying to help me I tried but well sometimes its like you just see darkness at the end of a tunnel never light.
    thanks again

Hi Manicboy, you sound like you could really do with someone to advocate for you at the mo.

Have you a support worker at all? Is there anyone from either a Crisis Team of Outreach that may be able to help you out?

Can I just say there is always light at the end of the tunnel, however sometimes you have to be the one lighting it (I read this earlier on another forum and it stuck in my head :D).

Manicboy, there are a number of issues going on for you at the mo and I really feel its important you try to deal with the most significant one first......that is YOU, you are more important that any bills, any money, any debts, they can wait, you need to concentrate on supporting yourself at the mo.

You say that you are not coming out of your room much and aren't sleeping....hun, you need some support, you cannot carry on living like this nor do you deserve to.

I know that you have been trying to not let your Mum know how ill you are getting, probably so she doesn't worry about you right? Well maybe you need her to know so that she can help or get other people to help you.

Please could you ring your GP and ask for some support, I'm worried that all the stress will cause you more distress and you will become more withdrawn.

Please try and access that support Manicboy or ask your Mum to on your behalf and please let us know how you are doing so we can collectively try to help you in whatever way we can. You're not alone, we're here. ;)

Hi Everyone and thank you all so kindly for all your help and advice and support. you have all been so wonderful.
I sent off my details today with my signed dro request to CCCS, so now im waiting for a reply to see if Im eligible.
While adding my credit card statement I noticed on it that I have been paying PPI or payment protection since i had the card.. But im a bit perplexed about something I agreed a fixed fee with the bank for £100 a month but they seem to be charging me out of that £48 for Payment protection,
So if my card is insured with payment protection and this is my stupid question then why doenst the insurance cover the whole thing. Oh is that me being niave and stupid again.
Im still very worried about the interest on my account as i was told not to pay anymore money into that account and to be honest there are so many rules that all i do is get more depressed thinking im going to make a mistake or do something wrong which is adding to my stress levels.
I have managed one afternoon out of the house this month so I know im getting worse and really dont know what to do about this did think of going to talk to an accountant for help what would you advise.

Hi Manicboy, really great to see that you've popped by and updated.:T

You can reclaim your PPI, Martin has some advice on how to do this on the front page, just search for Reclaim PPI.

  • Hi Manicboy - glad to see you are making progress. It sounds like you have your new bank account up and running which is great so you are in control of that account.
Do not worry about the other account - they can add charges on all day long if they like but they still can't have what you havnen't got - it's all just numbers on a piece of paper to them - they are just adding charges on which they will have to cancel later on anyway.
Hopefully CCCS will be looking at your DRO and hopefully this will go through and wipe all the debts for you - in the meantime please don't worry.
What the bank is up to with the insurance is anybodys guess - not really sure on this one. I would write them a letter and say to them - sort it out - why are you charging me for this? why are you not paying me?
I would try and phone the Samaritans as well or your doctors - your medicine is obviously not working properly for you at the moment and you need some more help. You are doing brilliantly sorting the bank accounts etc but you need to get some help with the depression. You need to speak to the doctor and make them clear how bad the situation is for you and that you need a psychiatrist and counselling and a social worker/support person. Yes you may have had all your recommended counselling to start with but they can't just leave you in this position - they need to help you and get you specialist help. Do not accept any excuses from them - you can recover but you need their help.
You can do this - dig deep and make that call.

  • Manicboy have you spoken to MIND or Citizens Advice Bureau as suggested above? I really think it will help you emotionally and they can give you practical help with all the forms and things.

The debt will probably get worse before it gets better but you don't need to be paying £100 any more, just a token amount of say £10 a month to keep it ticking over until the DRO is in place. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Lastly, it is a slow process but you will get there eventually. Unfortunately there is no magic cure for debt and it may seem like you are getting nowhere but every step you take will get you further towards your debt free goal.

In the meantime, all these lovely people are here to help and either have been or still are in a similar position. It will be solved eventually, don't let the banks bully you into doing something stupid.

    *hugs*
