Mozilla Firefox newbie help please

Hey all

I have switched from IE to Mozilla Firefox due to having problems with IE loading.

I've figured out how to use Firefox pretty well since switching yesterday but it doesn't seem to remeber things I type in. On IE when I typed in my emial/username on websites it would 'remember' them, as in I would only need to type first few letters of it and then a drop down box would appear with the full thing.

Does this happen on Firefox too? Do I need to enable something for it to remeber them, or just be patient and it will work after awhile?!

TIA

  • Welcome to Firefox!

On the toolbar at the top go to 'tools'>'options'>'privacy'> then click the box that says 'Remember what I enter in forms and tool bar'

    That should do it.

I tried that but there is no option for 'Remember what I enter in forms and tool bar' :(

There is only the option to 'Remember History'

However it does say " Firefox will remember browsing history, downloads, form and search history and keep cookies'

Try this addon for the url history

The forms history is as has been said controlled by the Privacy settings - the default when you install firefox usually does behave like that.

To configure password storage behaviour, go to ToolsOptionsSecurity.
  • Well after following your help I have managed to make Firefox store some passwords for somethingd but now when I'm filling out forms etc I get a drop down greyed out box when it should be 'remembering' my details.

    Any ideas?

The suggestions provided when filling in forms depends greatly upon how the forms themselves have been configured, a detail determined solely be the web designer(s) who made the page.

Note: if you'd like more control over your history, go to ToolsOptionsPrivacy and change the first option so that it reads "Use custom settings for history."
