Laptop question

I have a Toshiba Satellite A60 and in the middle of me downloading, it switches itself off and continues doing this when I switch on again and am not downloading. This is the first time that I've been able to get onto the machine in about half an hour due to it keep switching off! I am not downloading at the moment so it seems OK.

What can be the problem and why does this happen?

Probably overheating due to a build up of dust. I had this problem with my Toshiba A30.

Turn the laptop upside down and vacuum the fan grill and around the back where the heat sink is.

Also, sounds obvious but double check the power supply is actually supplying power (maybe a fractured cable etc) as the laptop could have been running on battery until it got too low then shuts down. If the cable was dodgy just moving the laptop slightly may give it power for a few seconds/minutes until it loses the wiring connection again. Happens more often than you think!
