Hi, I bought a plasma tv from currys 8 weeks ago and it has developed a fault, i went in store and they sent someone to look at it and they said it needed to be sent away, i wasnt happy about this but its now been gone a week and i phoned to ask whats being done but they have not even looked at it yet  I have spent a lot of money on a tv and they tell me it could take 21 days before i hear any thing. does anyone know if i can ask for a new one or do i have to just wait.

I would say that 1 month waiting for an 8 week old item to be looked at, is somewhat on the long side.
Under the terms of section 48 of the Sale of Goods Act, any repair must be 'within a reasonable time but without causing significant inconvenience'.
So the question I would raise is whether or not the predicted timescale fits that requirement or not. I would ask them to either expedite the repair, or to seek other arrangements (i.e. a replacement or offer a refund).0 -

We are talking about Curry's here.
You are lucky they sent it away to be repaired and expect a world of hurt before you get this resolved.0 -
Hi, I used to work for a large electrical retailer on the servicing side. If the repair could not be accomplished in 28 days then the item was exchanged. If the item was within 28 days of purchase it could be returned to the manufacturer automatically.0

If the TV can't be repaired in your home, it goes to a Tech Guys centre, known once upon a time as the Flat Panel Centre of Excellence. If the TV hasn't been repaired within 28 days from your reporting the fault, it's generally exchanged. I've actually had some trouble finding the specifics of this rule, but it's commonly used - after all, 28 days is long enough for anything to be repaired!
The 21-day rule applies only to Whateverhappens customers (who bought it before 27th August this year). From now on, there's two types of WEH, one with a 10-day max repair time, the other with 28 days.
Of course, the SoGA takes precedence (for example, for a family whose cooker broke down, a week would be too long). But for a TV, the inconvenience is less (even if it seems like twice as long with no TV!).Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
