would you have gas run to the kitchen....

hi, we are in the process of having a extension fitted to the back of our house, the have started the foundations during the week. The dinning room is being extended and a new kitchen will be fitted in it the exsisting kitchen is next door ad will be coverted to thedinning room.
Missus mentioned to the bulder that it will house the kitchen and he said lucky you had mentioned that as he would have to lay a new manhole and drainage etc (which he will charge £450.00 to do) my wife rang a couple of other builders and they all said thats a decent price.
my next question is that as we can put the drainage in ( the sink will be put in a centre island unit in the kitchen). at the moment there is no gas in there as the original kitchen is in the next room, a gas fitted said he would want about £500 to angle grind a channel in the floors and fit the gas pipe through!
my wife is having a induction hob and an electric oven but if we go ahead and dont do it now i'm concerned that many years we may change our mind or indeed sell and people wont like it because there is no gas in the kitchen.
lastly the bathroom is near enough above the extension for water would it be possible to take it down from the bathroom in the walls and then across the floor to feed the sink in the island.
sorry loads of questions....

if you are not going to use the gas then dont bother. a potential house buyer is not going to walk away from a house just cause theres no gas in the kitchen. (highly unlikely).
re the water pipes. yes thats ok. but remember you need mains water direct (for drinking) for the kichen sink.Get some gorm.0 -
Thanks for replying, hopefully they could elbow off the pipes that feed the cold water tank they must run up one of the walls. Think we have made our mind up too with technological advances in years to come induction should only get better. Think we will save the mess and money and spend it elsewhwere.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0

I personally wouldn't consider buying a house that didn't have a gas supply into the kitchen. I prefer using a gas hob & electric fan oven & there are a lot of people who are only happy cooking with gas.
If you feel you are going to stay in the house for many, many years then having no gas supply won't be such an issue, but if you think you may want to sell at some point then spending a few hundred pound to increase the appeal of your home to gas lovers may be well worth it.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
so you wouldnt buy the perfect house for you, if it had no gas in the kitchen?
(when it would cost maybe a few hundred quid to install it).Get some gorm.0 -
It's not just a case of a few hundred £s once the kitchen is in & floor is down though is it? Especially if the hob is in an island unit (not sure if it is?). Either way it will mean getting through units, possibly taking the floor up & generally be a pain. Personally it wouldn't stop me buying the perfect house. I prefer to use a gas hob & electric oven, but there are loads of people who prefer electric only. If you're going to be there for a few years don't worry too much though as the new owners will likely put a new kitchen in anyway. [Is it just me, or do kitchens seem to get renewed with alarming regularity nowadays?]0

For us its our final house I can't see us moving from here until our girls move out (eldest is only 7 so its not going to be soon : ). )Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0

i was put off places without gas ovens if they were all integrated because it would have meant putting new stuff in, but if there was no gas at all in the kitchen, it would definately put me off0

If your cooker breaks, are you likely to replace it with an electric one again or would you prefer gas hob?
Where is your boiler? This uses gas too. Any chance you would relocate this any any point to the kitchen?0 -
i'd def out gas in whilst you have the chance now. For me I wouldn't buy a house with no gas in the kitchen.People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

thanks for all the replies, its kind of what i thought the majority of people would say, i might try to list a floor plan of the house so its easier to understand, the boiler is (couldnt be farther away from the new kitchen tbh! lol..Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0
