Costco and electronics

My other thread - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=24647191 - I bought a TV from Costco which turned out to have a stuck-on bright white pixel. Took it back the next day and got a full refund with no fuss or drama. It's a lesson to those who have had problems with companies like Currys and Comet. Costco's five year guarantee on TVs, two year guarantee on computers, and 90-day no-quibble return policy on electronics makes buying from them a no-brainer.

Very true. Costco is certainly not the cheapest place to buy electronics but worth paying a little bit extra for their excellent aftersales service and extended warranties on some items. For example they're doing the Samsuung 46" LED TV right now with 5 year warranty included, OK it's 100 quid more than the cheapest on-line price but I don't think you could buy a 5 year extended warranty for that...0

Oooo theres a name I remember from US - they are big over there I think. At least in 99 when I was there my relatives took me to this costco store - it was one big warehouse.
We bought this 40inch sony tv and took it on this huge trolley out and onto roof of one of the cars and drove home :rotfl:
Suspect they are cheaper over there than in this country with value added TAT being lower in US.0 -
All their TV's have five year warranty. Funnily enough the big TV that I bought was a Samsung (LE40B650). What a cracking piece of kit, and internet connected too! I could have bought it cheaper online but I do put a price on Costco's guarantees and it was still cheaper than any high street store, including John Lewis.AirCooledHeaven wrote: »For example they're doing the Samsuung 46" LED TV right now with 5 year warranty included, OK it's 100 quid more than the cheapest on-line price but I don't think you could buy a 5 year extended warranty for that...0 -
You are so right. I cannot understand why anyone buys any major electrical appliance from the likes of Dixons et al. My wife's cousin bought a tv from them last year that went wrong after a couple of weeks. They just would not accept an exchange and insisted on a repair...on a TWO week old tv.....!!!"...IT'S FRUITY!"0

not had a single problem with taking things back to costco in general... finding someone who had a card however... :eek:I feel like the day he died0

There used to be a lifetime guarantee on everything, but now that has been cut...
When the lifetime guarantee was still 'in-force', we had a friend who bought a printer there 5/6 years ago, and took it back because she couldn't buy the inks anymore and they gave her a FULL refund even after the 5/6 years!!:beer:The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

The only reason I would hesitate is that Costco don't accept credit cards which have Sect 75 protection (probably not a problem with Costco) and instant insurance for the item between shop and home.0 -
