Some time ago I found a site that informed you whether or not each credit card company carried out a credit search on you. (I’m almost sure it was this one)

We have played the credit card game for the past 12 months but just before Christmas we considered moving and made enquiries with our building society. We made it clear that we were only enquiring and not applying for the mortgage but the building society carried out a credit check and turned us down for the mortgage, This has had the effect that the last credit card we applied for has turned us down.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Each credit company performs a credit search unless you already have a lot of credit history with them. However, they use different CRAs: See a full list of which Credit Reference Agency each provider uses.

I don't think that one recent credit search was the only reason of your last credit card application being turnd down.
