Who offers the best student credit card (to do with rewards and apr etc) but don't require you to have a student account with them?
Thanks,
Jaymo

Id imagine the best student credit card is called a debit card. APR is 0% and you can always see where you are.
This load and go that O2 have launched seems a good idea if you really must have a card.0 -
that was about as helpful as a chocolate fire guard!0

I dont know what a "student credit card" is but in terms of new-to-credit-cards then Capital One are the "best" with a lower APR than Aqua / Vanquid, but at 34.9% it's not exactly something you want to be ever in debt on and the limit is tiny (£100 for me for the first 4 monts).Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

However, in last weeks Sunday Times, it did say that students with little or no credit history could be turned down for cc's because lenders don't have enough info to know if they will be able to repay any debt.
ETA: Here's a link to the articleOk, I can't link to the article, but if you go to the Times website it's article 6806021
6 BUILD A CREDIT FILE In these tough times, students with little or no credit history may be turned down for credit cards or even a mobile phone contract because lenders do not have enough information on their ability to repay a debt. You can register with annualcreditreport.co.uk, which offers a free annual credit check.0 -
I dont see how requesting a credit check will help - I turned 18 recently and I know all that is on my credit file is on the electoral roll.
Since then i've been accepted for a phone contract (at 1AM on the day I turned 18 I'm so sad...) and a CapitalOne CC (...albeit with a £100 limit!).
I may or may not have had 3 searches run by a guy in CPW though so who knows what it's like now...Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
Do you have any savings? Or a (good) history with a bank? I was guaranteed a Halifax credit card (a normal one, not Student) because of my history with them, so they didn't even need to do a credit check on me. Maybe ask your bank if they have anything similar on you.0

I disagree, Who wants to be in debt troubles? This is a good way to avoid them! Many students that I know spend more than they can afford on their overdrafts and credit cards and most of it would have been avoided if they could see they had no money.
This forum is about money saving (hence the name) and this is what I provided. If you dont like answers you are getting, may I suggest Google and looking yourself?0 -
Getting a credit card helps to build up your credit history - vital for stoozing, for example.
You can spend your life afraid of credit, have no credit cards or contract phones - but get screwed when you apply for a mortgage.
Just because I have a credit card it doesn't mean I don't know how to life within my means....Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -

I never said it did, Just that a lot of people in the same situation dont know how to handle it. You must be one of the more sensible ones.0 -

I have a full-time job at the moment and I part-time job for when I start Uni again. Debt isn't a worry for me as the credit card is to help build my credit rating.
Please don't stereotype everyone in the future. Also; remove your head from the clouds in the sky, because if you can't take a joke then leave it at that. I'm not here to argue.0
