Nokia N73 help with lots of things

Right Techie's I need a bit of help! I am fairly good with technology, but I've definitely not got the touch when it comes to phones or photocopiers.

So I've had an N73 Nokia for nearly 2 years - used for calls and texts no internet.

Problems:
1. Slow , painfully slow moving between screens

2. Have managed to 'lose' my gallery of pics and vids - they are still there as when I look at them on the PC but when I look on the phone it just says "click to download" - I have looked around and seems I might have deleted a vital file - but can't find out anywhere how to get it back - any ideas?

Have just got interweb on my phone hurrah! I feel like a fake iPhone user; so now I want to download apps! How do I get the apps on the phone?

I want to sort the gallery so I can send my first multi media message with a pic attached! :j

Don't even suggest Nokia PC Suite as it just won't recognise my phone. Always says it is "connected in non-compatible mode" - which I can't seem to figure out either.

I'm tempted to stamp on it, give it away and just buy a new one but really should try and sort it out - have no idea how though . I am totally stuck.

Can anyone anywhere help PLEASE!? :A

Yes mine was the same, i updated the firmware and it was fine after that. Type in *#0000# and 'call' and let us know what current version of firmware you have.

You can download quite a few apps which let you browse all files on your phone, hidden or otherwise, much like Windows Explorer on your PC. This might help you find where they've got to, otherwise have you checked file manager, i think it's in the Tools folder?

Easy peasy, there's a number of ways - how do you connect to PC? via USB and Nokia PC Suite, or bluetooth? Or directly by memory card?

Ah okay, forget previous question then. Not sure why it should be doing this,i've not had it myself.
So how are you connecting to look at your pics?

Does your PC have a card reader? If so, do you have the little adapter to insert the card from your phone directly into PC?

Version - V 4.0727.2.2.1

I connect via USB usually. I use it in "mass storage" and treat it like a memory stick. No card reader on pc

OOOOOOOOOOOOOH! I've just found my pictures!!! In file manager under tools! thanks so much - however I can't get to view them in the gallery so still stuck with that bit.

Re. the USB connecting problem, try going to Tools > Data Cable > set to "always ask" if it's not already. That's the only thing i can think of that would make it go pete tong when plugging it in.

The latest firmware available is 4.0735.3.0.2 according to the Nokia site, but don't worry about that just yet as it's too risky to attempt to update it unless you have a stable USB connection!

When you say the pics aren't showing in gallery, are they showing in the "all files" part of the gallery, or just not the slideshow/circular type display (that's clearly not the techy description LOL)

Right just deleted loads of stuff and copied "images" folder from memory card to the phone memory and its doing the same. Ooh hang on think I've got it working!! God I feel like an idiot now!

Still no joy with it being slow or connecting properly tho!

I'm learning more about this phone tonight than I have in 2 years! Apparently you can sync pc's to the phone!!

Just playing with my N73 now trying to figure it out, and it seems you will need to connect via USB to fix the pics not showing in Gallery issue.

If you can connect via USB, in mass storage mode.

Then on PC, go to my computer, right click on the box showing the phone drive, click properties, then from here you should be able to check for errors, so tick relevant boxes and allow to do it. This should kick the phone into checking all drives for you images.

I hope that makes sense, and if so, i hope it works lol

Lol i know what you mean, i've had mine for ages too and always learning little things about it. I will PM you a (safe) link to a forum for lots of (mse ) apps and games, i've used it for a few years and not had anything dodgy, apart from the odd foreign game whch is easily deleted lol.

A few handy things i now know to do:

Press & hold Menu button to bring up a list of what u have open, it's good for when your RAM is running low and things are sluggish. For example, on startup Music Player auto runs in the background, but if u do this then press C you can close it down.
Also i use an app called TaskMan which helps u get rid of stuff to help it run faster (like when i close the Log, sometimes i find it's still lurking in the background eating at my memory and making it run slow) but i'll send u the link for that.

and

If u don't want the blue light to flash when it's idle, go to tools > phone > display > sleep mode > off


I'm not speaking to my N73 at the minute cos the joystick is sticking and if i press it, it keeps pressing itself for ages :rolleyes: Time i got a new one really but i love it

I just found this on your N73 review "Disadvantages: If you're clueless about phones and you come across a bug you'll want to throw it away" - yes that's me!!

OMG THE BLUE LIGHT DOES MY NUT IN! thanks soooo much!!! BUT there is no "PHONE" under tools!!

Ooh not good on the joystick - i have a phone i can sell to you
