Cutting Garden Paving Stones/Flags

Hiya,

we had our garden done last year, on a major budget, hence the silly issues! The dude paved the entire garden but only left literally a few inches for me to plant anything!!! He couldn't be bothered to cut the flags!!

Anyhows, i've got around 8 flags that need to be cut in half and i don't have the right tools. Is there anywhere i can take them to be cut?????????????

Any advice would be great,

ta:D

.....i'm in M14, South Manchester:A

You could always hire a cutter for a few hours....would be easier taking the cutter to the slabs than the slabs to the cutter I think.

A small grinder costs £15 to £25 if you are upto running it along them yourself?

Sell it on ebay afterwards if need be....
  • Yes,you need to either a) hire a stihl saw and cut them yourself or b) get a builder to come and do them on site for you. If you see any highway workers it might be worth offering them a tenner to come and do it in works time for you.

Yes, that will do the job for 8 flags for sure.

Just mark them half way with a marker pen, score them lightly first run through, then repeat the process a couple of times till more than half way. Give them a tap with a hammer and a bolster chisel in the grove (about £2 from Wilkinson's) and job done to perfection every time (and very satisfying too!!)

ooh just make sure it's a stone cutting disk, not a metal one etc....

The £14.99 one will do the job with a stone disk in it. Places like poundland sell the disks. Not the best quality, but will do the job.

If i was you i would hire a stihl saw, they don`t cost much to hire but you may need to leave a deposit which is returnable when u take it back.
Might be best to ask for a diamond tipped blade, depending on the slabs you have to cut. I had some natural stone slabs to cut and there was no way any abrasive blade was going to cut them apart from a diamond tipped blade..!
Its a mucky/dusty job wear a mask or if you do get a stihl saw they come with an attachment so you can attach a hose pipe which will keep the dust down.
Always wear ear defenders and goggles as cutting masonery with a power saw is dangerous.
:D MOVE ALONG........ nothing to see here..!
