I think it aught to be published, isn't it a good indication as to what others think houses are worth?I run an event management company, I put on events, I go to events, if I don't know anything about events - its not worth knowing!:j:j:jNegotiate, Negotiate, and Negotiate again.:j:j:j0

A house is worth what you are willing to pay for it, not what someone else was willing to pay for it 3 years ago befree they put on an extension and rewired it. People managed perfectly well before...unless you would like to disclose your exact income and credit card debts to everyone in your street, in the spirit of openness.Been away for a while.0

People can go to the companies house website and see exactly what my company is worth.. (diddly squat) however in the interests in fairness surely the price should be in the open?I run an event management company, I put on events, I go to events, if I don't know anything about events - its not worth knowing!:j:j:jNegotiate, Negotiate, and Negotiate again.:j:j:j0

If you buy a tin of beans in Tesco, everyone knows what you paid for it.
If you buy a CD in HMV, everyone knows what you paid.
If you buy a TV from Comet, everyone knows....
If you buy a BMW, everyone knows....
Why should your house purchase be any different?0 -
I think its a snobby thing tbh, my friends who are first time buyers love telling EVERYONE how much they paid... cos they got a right bargain. Its a status thing in this country about "owning" a house. I rent. People look down their nose at me... on the continent its normal to never own your own house. I'm so over it! If you want to know how much rent I pay I don't mind, I'll quite happily tell you. No idea why everyone is so protective over it.I run an event management company, I put on events, I go to events, if I don't know anything about events - its not worth knowing!:j:j:jNegotiate, Negotiate, and Negotiate again.:j:j:j0

From what I've seen the Register of Scotland contains details of every sale at Auctions or through Estate Agents, or from the original developer. (I've been tracking local prices compared to there sale value)
I have noticed the odd property does seem to not appear but with some work you can find them, they tend to have been listed differently and some may not be listed with a Postcode (common).
You can search ROS without a postcode, not sure about Land Registry.
ROS will also list the following as different locations (Example)
1 Common Drive Way
Edinburgh
1 Common Drive
Way
Edinburgh.
Despite these appearing the same the ROS search wouldn't recognise them as the same. The first 'Common Drive Way' and the second as 'Common Drive'.
The idea of providing this information makes the market fair, never more so than in the current climate. Nobody wants to pay over the odds for a property right now.
I'm slightly against the other details you can legally obtain about properties. The mortgage value, you're registered address, you're full name, who the mortgage is with. The plan of the property etc.
Just to question, if a property is sold at auction don't you still need to register the deeds?0 -

Why should your house purchase be any different?
Correction. If you buy a BMW, people can work out the market value of the model, but they can never know how much you paid - unless you tell them. For example, if you bought the BMW from a friend or relative they may well have given you a hefty discount.
Why should your house purchase by any different?
Displaying house prices is an invasion of privacy and needs banning.0
