We have 2 laptops in our house and have for a couple of years just automatically bought the 3 user version of Norton which we have had no problem with.
I have read posts on here that they are rubbish and recommending a downloadable free one.

Can any one help as i cant remember the name of any of them.
We use our laptops mainly for banking, transferring funds and booking holidays etc. Dont download very much at all.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I've had Norton in the past and tried most of the free one's and have settled on Avast, it can be found here

Avira is far and away the best free AV program at present.
But if you or someone in the household uses Barclays Online Banking, you can get Kaspersky free on a 3 user licence.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

So when the time comes to install Avira, do i just down load it.

Do i have to uninstall the Norton or not.

Yes, you need to remove Norton first, never have more than one AV on a computer at a time they can conflict and cause problems.

First download Avira and save it to your computer. Then disconnect from the internet and uninstall Norton. Next run the Norton removal tool from http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 .
Finally install Avira and reconnect to the internet and allow it to update.

I think you'll find norton covers spyware and firewall as wel so you'll need something like Superantispyware and PCTools Firewall Plus along with Threatfire to provide ful coverage.
