Sales....what sales!

It's odd how the January sales still attract lots of attention and shoppers but in many stores they could hardly be called a sale. OK I'm exaggerating but what the hell. Sales at other times are usually far better.

This years Debenhams sale is terrible (for mens clothes at least). Currys claim to be having a sale but it's hard to tell. Knocking £10 off some £150 items is hardly a sale. PC world did have few items for 2 days but hardly anything now. Nothing much good in WH Smiths and not much in Woolies. HMV and MVC nothing to write home about. In these shops the general offers throughout the year are often better bargains. There's also a lack of good price reductions. Comet don't have sales but often have end of line discounted prices but not at this time - well not much anyway.

I think the term "January sale" is used to attract people into shops in the hope they don't notice the lack of bargains.

  • Yes, and the shops that are having a 'sale' seem to rake out all the old rubbish that they haven't been able to sell throughout the year and put their decent stuff away.

  • Well if Currys are giving £10 off a £150 item then surely that counts as a sale!

Can anyone beat this tho? HMV in Oxford have the new Green Day album for £10.99 in their sale. However before Xmas it was in their 2 for £20 offer, so the sale price is 99p more than before Xmas. And they have the cheek to put a £2 off sticker on it! On the other hand everything in our Next Clearance store is vastly reduced, probably because they're expecting the leftovers from the Next sales across the country so they're desperate to get rid of stock.
