Just a quick up date for those who were kind enough to reply.
I have had a call from a manager at the brokers to say that he had listened to all the relevant phone conversations. He admitted that no one had rung either me or the garage with instructions to dispose of the vehicle.
Therefore he felt partly responsible for the cost of the storage. After speaking to the garage he has agreed to pay 50% of the costs. The other 50% will come out of my daughters estate (which contains nothing).
I'm glad the garage is getting something. but as others have pointed out they are not exactly out of pocket.0

I'm glad to hear things are kind of sorted for you.
Rightly or wrongly, if I was the garage, I would have a hard time accepting any amount of payment given the circumstances.
 Whatever happened to compassion?0
