Razkass you can't work for NU otherwise you would be against DOC and try and force the market to stop DOC, then you would change your mind and be for DOC when everyone ignores you... lol

I wish I could afford a Chubb Policy as their driving other cars is the best

I'm very glad that I do not work for NU in light of them recently advertising for "underwriters" on 14k p.a... ;)

If you drive somewhere do something and twist your ankle so badly you can't drive back then it's good to have a trusted friend who will drive your car back for you rather than leave it 50 miles away, or in a zone where your car will receive a ticket.

What sort of accident did you think I mean?
I think you know what sort of accident I thought you meant.

In the circumstances you describe I would try to contact my insurers to add my friend to my policy.

    Or I'd ring my Mum.

It makes you wonder how much they pay the customer services staff in the UK

    Wouldn't she need DOC? :p
All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.

Quinn have it on their TPFT policies...
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

I have two stories about how useful being able to drive other cars is
I know how useful it is. I've already said that. And I could think of a dozen examples better than this one...

On another occasion someone was asked to drive to a conference for their job using the company car.
...because I have no idea why:

    1. A "company" car wouldn't have cover for the driver already...
    2. Why the required cover couldn't have been arranged beforehand (was the conference arranged at that short notice?)
    3. Imagining that the company car was relatively new and of relatively high value, and the cover wasn't in place already, why the company would allow someone to drive it on a third party only basis.

It's a good policy to have and i'd like to find an insurance company who included it on their policy too..
It's part of a policy. More companies used to provide DOC cover than do now, and many of them provide it under TPFT cover. Quinn (:rotfl:) aren't an exception.

    What does your sig mean:confused:?
What has that got to do with DOC?

We still don't know why this cover is so essential for the OP.

Update: Comparethemarket.com have a facility whereby you can click a quote, then it provides details of what's covered. It purports to show if DOC is included, even though none of the quotes I received said it was available, I later found this to be incorrect (so much for the stupid meercat huh?)

Most companies FAQs say "Check your certificate" (pointless) or "DOC may be available" (equally pointless and unhelpful). In the end, I used the lowest quote (from swiftcover.com) then used raskazz's advice and phoned them. As long as I fulfilled their criteria of not being an estate agent, retired but under 50, licence longer than a year, over 25 and a few other quite reasonable restrictions, the DOC is granted automatically.

Paying a little bit extra for the security of knowing I'm insured for situations such as others have mentioned, wouldn't be a problem for me. As it was swiftcover were a good £40 cheaper than the next quote anyway.
