Market trading.

My friend is a Market stall holder, which requires Insurance cover for Public Liability. He only trades once a week. Does anyone know where this insurance can be sourced at a reasonable Premium. He is not permitted to trade without it, even though he only sells paper goods cards etc. Anyone out there who can help??

I work in construction and heavy engineering liability insurance, eg. foundries. Over the last 6 months or so we've started to see claims for relatively minor cuts - the type of thing that people would brush off in the past, particularly in those industries. Now I suspect they see it as an additional income.

I'm just waiting for the day that we get our first claim for a paper cut :)

Totally off-topic I know but in view of your friends trade. The MTA's schemes offer the best deal because of their negotiating power. Most insurers have minimum premiums of £150-500 so cannot compete.

I am with the NMTF http://www.nmtf.co.uk/ the details are on the website and you do get PL, I no longer do markets and trade online but face to face occassionally and online, but I stay with them because they are well priced and it includes PL. Also, if you take van, house and car insurance with them you get a £25 vouchers for each policy and you can can use this to pay for your annual membership to the NMTF. They offered the best deal on my van insurance too.

You can also get deals on Business bank accounts (cheap set up), i also get merchant accounts (I have 2 one fact to face the other online) and I paid nothing for set up and I have no minimum monthly transactions - this is usually £20 a month for each account.

Just tell them you are a member when you call to set up the account.
