My daughter (20) had a horrible experience going through security at Belfast city airport on Sunday.
She was only carrying hand luggage and was going to stay with a friend in London.
As a thank - you to friends Gran for purring her up, she had a jar of homemade marmalde with her. (Yes I now realise that was against the regs.)
Said marmalade was all dolled up with a wee cloth on its lid etc. you get the picture!
Anyway, woman at security hoked it out of her bag "whats this"..you cant have that blah de blah.liquids are forbidden.(I get offended at this pont because I knew I should have boiled it for longer!)
So, daughter tried to be jokey and friendly nad said ,well, its not liquid, its jelly.
That may have been perceived as cheeky and I guess she just should have smiled sweetly.
The woman walked off with jar and in a voice that mocked my daughters well spoken ,ever so slightly English slightly accent said to her colleage"Oooh , its not liquid its gel"
well, my daughter ot irritated and siad to te woman...if you are going to mock me to your colleages , please quote me correctly. I said, its not liquid, its Jelly.
So, woman walk over to colleague again and say..itsnot liquid, its jelleeee.
she then proceded to haul all her underwear out and stuff it back in her bag.Daughter said..I'll do that.
Please yourself she said.
AAAAARRRRGGGHHH!
I'm cross!

Yes, airport security and most security to a point are a-holes.

Tell me something I don't know.

My point Dave is that some little people surely make certain that they enjoy their pathetic one moment of power over your life. Losers.
I suppose I should feel more sorry for her than annoyed.

This person was working security in a secure area. They get paid buttons and have zero prospects - they have to do something to make themselves feel important!

i spent 2 days at the city airport last week for a course from work and i had to be searched each day as if i was getting on the plane  no big deal you might think - but the stupit person who booked the course forgot to tell us all that we couldn't take any liquids etc into the training room with us and take off shoes, belts, coats you get the picture..... would have been ok if we ladies had left the handbags at home :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:they asked us to travel light on the second day as we took so long to get through security
 while i knit i think

Don't want to state the obvious here but it's called "Airport Security" for a reason ... who's to say the taliban bomb making department aren't considering using jellleeeee as a form of concealing another 911 or July 7th attack.
Yes your airport security folk get paid "peanuts" (well above minimum wage for what it's worth) but they are also doing a job. Where you thankful that you daughter got to her destination unharmed and inturn came on to this forum to praise security ... no, because this forum more & more regulalry is used for people to moan about things.
I'm sorry but you'd thought that in this day & age people would be aware that liquids are NOT allowed through security.
For what it's worth I don't agree with the security staff mocking your daughter but is it really worth broadcasting your complaint

You obviously missed the post I made some weeks ago. You could go through security the normal way... alternatively, you could go upstairs into the eating area and turn left, through the double doors, down the stairs and come out the far side of security.

They may be doing a job.... but there is a lot of 'show'. If you wanted to cause trouble at BHD, you wouldn't be having to go through security :p

Sorry for this OT comment but the thing I HATE most about Belfast Sh1tty Airport is the a-holes that don't let you do pickups at the front doors. They force you into the 'pay parks' - ########!!!!

    Yes folks,thanks for your responses.
I know it was wrong to put the marmalade in the bag , we all make mistakes, she wasnt trying to deceive.
The bit that really annoyed me was the cheeky attitude - how dare she mock my daughter because of how she speaks!
I know that the real reason for my anger and hence my post was because I'm an over protective Mum. Always have been always will be.
I just needed to vent (like the woman on security I suppose)
but we both picked the wrong place to do it!
