this works on some versions of windows: A few basic choices here (1) Run some non distructive diagnostics (2) copy off the data - pictures/documents etc. (3) reinstall - lose the applications (4) wipe and re-install - loose everything and start again, but if there were bad blocks these may be now marked on formatting (5) run the bootable kapersky virus checker. (6)
some outcomes (a) you have a virus (b) duff hardwaret (c) software corrupt
3 is the easiest, but if the drive is corrupt you may wipe the pictures, mp3 etc
Good luck

Suggestion:
a) Recognise Windoze is bloated, a pain in the a**e from time2time and repairing it ain't easy always when it goes wrong (oh yes, it goes wrong..)
b) The are alternatives - eg Linux
c) These are in general better
i) Free (no, really, free as in free beer)
ii) Faster I have Vista & Linux on this laptop, dual booting: Linux is quciker to boot, quicker to browse, quicker to email/handle .doc files etc etc...
iii) There are many many fewer successful attempts at Hacking Linux: It's more secure!!!
iv) You won't need all those add-on products to cure the holes left by Mr Gates (ant-virus for example..)
So, if you can't find the CDs go to
www.ubuntu.com,,
download the current version and off you go. Yes you will need to learn stuff.
Cheers!
