Scottish Power scare tatctic???
I am currently a Scottish Power customer and signed up for 1 year fixed tariff that ends on 31/8/2009. As a very unhappy customer I decided to change supplier, knowing it can take between 6-8 weeks for the switch I started looking at the beginning of August and found a much better deal.
Tonight I recieved a phone call from SP stating that as I applied for the transfer before the 31/8/2009 I will have to pay £50.
No matter how much I pointed out that technically I am still a customer until the new supplier informs me of the transfer has completed the "customer service rep" said that did no matter, as I'd started the transfer before the end of my contract.
So I'm preparing to do battle as technically I find £50 charge totally unfounded as I will complete the terms of my contract.
Be warned....I think this is just a scare tactic and I don't scare easy but what about all the other more vunerable customers out there.

When did you apply to change over? Transfers usually take 28 days.0

The customer service rep is wrong. The T&C for the fixed price offer, para 3 makes it clear that the fees only apply if you cancel the contract by switching to another provider before 31 Aug. You haven't cancelled the contract. It's disgusting thay are using bully boy tactics.0

I have taken screen shots of the advice on this forum by the Scottish Power Rep, Craig, in three separate posts, that it is perfectly alright to initiate the switch before 31/8 as long as you don't actually leave until after that date.
I'm not paranoid (honest) but wanted screenshots to back me up if I needed them, as posts can be removed!A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion0 -

I initated the switch on the 3rd of August and my completed transfer date is 7 Sept.
I double checked with my new supplier E.ON, who when called were very helpful unlike SP and even allowed me to change my DD to the amount I believe I should be paying to cover my energy use. This involved an increase but they would have been just as happy to lower it if I said.0 -
