Lite-on DVD recorder problem

>:(Have Lite-on LVW 5005 DVD recorder - having problem as we have attached it to daughter's combined Phillips TV/Video set. The playback quality of a pre-recorded DVD is poor - flickering.
Have recorded onto new blank DVD-RW and quality of recording very good so why is pre-recorded DVD (Railway Children, The Thin Blue Line etc) not good?

There is a note in the manual that there could be a problem connecting to an "integrated TV/Video system" but doesn't tell us how to overcome problem - anyone know how we can rectify this? (if at all)

  • thats because of macrovision , an anti piracy measure , theres plenty of ways of legitimatly circumventing it for "professionals" a simple google will work.

I dont think that anyone on the board will allow a "howto" be a pirate.

piracy is a crime , do not accept it , should you see please contact the federation against copyright theft....fact on lada dada.
  • ???Oh goodness! Thank you but don't really understand what you mean - am a real beginner with computers etc. etc. and rather thick when it comes to anything techie!!
Don't want to record anything we shouldn't, just want daughter to be able to play a DVD (film or whatever) - any more advice or do we have to take the Lite-on back?
in which case, will a different player/recorder work or will we always have trouble due to the integrated system?
  • The reason why 'Macrovision' may be giving poor playback on pre-recorded DVDs is if the signal is going via the video recorder side of the system.

Macrovision is like a form of encryption placed onto a DVD to prevent piracy. So when the video side of your combi tried to process the incoming signal, the result is degraded due to the Macrovision protection.

Is there any way way you can feed the signal direct to the TV side of your combi??
  • :-/ Thanks LincsLad - that seems to make some kind of sense (afraid we're rather 'green') so will look at the instruction book, plugs, cables etc. and see if the husband can do what you suggest.....
Will let you know how we get on.
  • :(Well, much as he tried, husband could not find a way of doing what you suggested Lincslad - sadly I shall be taking the Lite-on back to Argos tomorrow and will hopefully get a refund. Looks as though we'll have to have a re-think on DVD for the daughter whilst she has combined TV/VHS.
Thank you for your advice and to Webhamster too for taking the time to try to help.
    Chris
