Re-installing Windows XP

Is it possible to install Windows XP Home (basic edition) using the product key for XP Home Media Center edition?

    no it def is not disc is locked to version with key at microsoft.

    Actually, it might work, depending on the version. The only way to be sure...is to try it. You'll only lose some time.

    In any case, you'd be better of just installing the first disc of the MC Edition as it much the same as XP Home anyway.

    MC Edition is actually based on XP Pro, not home. Which version of MCE is it? the first one or 2005?

    It was the 2005 edition but problem now solved - I installed a fresh copy of XP Pro and it's all working fine now thanks.
