Indorr Aerial for a TV with built in freeview

HI,
I have a 26" Philips TV with built in freeview and have just moved house. I used to have Sky but now don't, so am needing to get it up and running using the built in freeview. I have an old indoor aerial which I plugged into it but it just comes up with a message saying bad aerial position or connection. When I move the aerial about nothing happens, it just stays on the black screen with the message. Do I need to get some sort of special aerial?
Thanks, and sorry for what is more than likely a stupid question!

Not a " special " aerial, probably a roof mounted aerial of the correct size for your location.0

weve got a tv with freeview in the bedroom and the signal is very poor, sometimes its ok but more often than not many channels are not watchable, and we even have a booster plugged in which we got from argos for about a tennerits only a bargain, if you need it or will use it.

roof mounted as in outdoors? I can't do this as I'm in my parents house and they don't want roof aerials. Is there any other way to do it, preferably with an indoor aerial?0

Probably not, you can try by all means try, but if it doesnt work, then your only other hope of getting a satisfactory signal is a loft mounted aerial, that may work, but again it may not.
There really is no substitute for an external roof mounted aerial in many locations.0 -
wow didn't realise it was gonna be so useless! I have an old TV/Video combi which gets a good signal with the old aerial but maybe it is because it isn't as advanced as a tv with built in freeview? I thought there would have been some way to get the use out of it with some type of aerial. There are some at about £40 but not wanting to spend that if it's not gonna work!0

The only real way of finding out if any indoor aerial will work is to try one.
Try to find a retailer that will allow you to take one back if it doesn't work for a full refund.
Good luck.0 -
You might get away with an aerial in the loft. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

thank you very much for all your help, we do have an aerial in the loft which picks up a good signal for our tv in the living room, but as I don't have a tv point in my room I don't think this will work. I think I'll go to Maplin and try and see if they can recommend an aerial to let me try out.0

Or use the existing loft aerial connected to a two way distribution amp e.g. here. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
