Dell laptop running vista wont shutdown

Hi,

Seem to be having a bit off a problem with my dell studio 15 laptop which is running vista.

I've been online this morning and updated and installed a couple of firefox addons as well as using dvd shrink which threw a bit of a wobbler and wouldn't respond. I could not eject the dvd from the drive so I shut down and rebooted (got the dvd out).

Once I was up and running again the wireless Internet connection wouldn't work, in the end I got fed up and shut down the laptop and went out (before I threw it out of the window). I'd been out for about an hour and when I came back the laptop was still on the logging off screen. held down the power button and tried a reboot which was fine but the wireless is still not working I can't get into taskmanger (i just get the small green hatched square icon next to the time) also I can't click on the internet icon to pick a network to connect to, and it still wont shut down.
FYI - The wireless is working fine as I can get online on the PS3.

Cheers, what should I do if system restore wont open lol? when I try again it says "The system Restore wizard is already running. This programme will now exit"

Not to worry I've eventually got it going in safe mode and everything's working fine now.
