PC World, should they refund?

Bought a logik 256mb MP3 player for son on 29th November for Christmas. (Wasn't pricey, £24.99 but they are now £29.99 - think we bought it when it was on offer)
Has been working fine up until last week, when the screen just flashes blue on and off.
No text on screen and can't play songs. Have tried taking everything off it, seeing if it works, putting one or 2 songs back on to see if it works, but it still just flashes blue on and off. It's not a battery problem either.
Have the receipt and the disc/instructions it came with and we paid cash.
Should they refund or exchange?
We will go to the store tomorrow but just want to know if they should refund or exchange incase they say there is nothing they can do.

Under the sale of goods act the store has a right to attempt to repair the unit .. personally I think this is a waste of time for something that costs less than £30 (would hardly cover an engineer to take the cover off it).
You are well within warranty therefore Sale of Goods says you are entitled to a repair or replacement therefore, once they have decided that it is not repairable they should give you a replacement. They might, if pushed (politely) offer a refund, but that is above and beyond the sale of goods act and is a gesture of good will.
Details on sale of goods act can be found here
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
This would be an exchange item as its under £100. They more than likely won't even question what you say as its under the threshold.
