The amount of compliments I got about it as well were great, a few people actually thought it was a Monsoon dress!! Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's are all good for their dresses.
My friends also had a wedding list although I did get them vouchers for the place where the list was held. I didn't spend more than I could afford.
My brother and sister in law asked for Vouchers and money and explained to people it was so they could redecorate their kitchen but they did get quite a few presents as well.

Don't spend what you can't afford.

Same happened with me. My sister and now husband wanted to redecorate so they asked for John Lewis vouchers or cash. Partly because it would have been too much to take back if it was all presents. They did get a nice few presents. I'm sure the bride won't mind if you only give £10 or £20, everything builds up. My sister almost got the cost of the wedding back (exceluding honeymoon), £2500 worth of cash/vouchers!

I hope it's not too expensive for you. Have fun at the wedding though.

My SIL is a nurse as was going to about 5 weddings a year and she has now limted the wedding she attends if you add Hen nights and Stag nights on this it is well over £500 a time.
