paint stripping a front door

We have a multipanneled front door which has had layers of varnish over the years. We can't afford to replace at the moment and the varnish inside is fine so we dont want to take it off hinges and get it dipped. Because of all the bevelling on it we think hand sandpapering would be hard work and difficult so are thinking of paint stripper. Have never used it and wanted to ask if one type is better than another? Presumably will need to put primer on once paint is off or maybe the primer/undercoat stuff would be better as there will probably still be traces of varnish in places.

Many heat guns cost less than £20, so are unlikely to strain your wallet.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Keep it away from the glass though (if it has any).

It looks a bit like a hairdryer, but don't get them mixed up!

I agree, heat gun is definitely the best way to go. If you want to try a paint stripper though, I use Nitromors (about £6 for a large tin from B & Q) plus a bit of elbow grease works a treat!
