Hey, I just thought i'd put a post up to let people know what happened with my BF's debt probs - might help anyone with student c/card or contract mobile phone.
He maxed out his student c/card to put towards paying tuition fees which was fine because its no interest for the first year. Unfortunately he tried to get away with not paying any back but as soon as it was past the year the interest started piling on and so did the late payment and overlimit fees (at £20 a time). It got to £200 over his limit before he had the nerve to sort it out but thankfully with some encouragement he got it on a payment plan. He explained he was a student so couldn't pay loads off so offered £50 per month until it was in limit and they accepted. Sorted.
Similar situation with phone contract, spent more than he could afford and ended up owing £160+ to orange for bills. Rang them and asked to be put on payment plan, offered £50 per month til paid off and they accepted. Also let him keep handset even though had to cancel contract and has now bought a PAYG sim from orange site for £1 so only uses what he needs!
Don't be afraid to go for a payment plan and make them an initial payment offer, it sometimes works!
