Just because you've notified RBS that you will be using your card abroad in Egypt, who's to say it that it won't/can't be used fraudulently in the country that you're in?

Better safe than sorry - and I hope you took down that number.
Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion :p

If your debit card does get blocked whilst aboard call 0044 131 3397609 (RBS Debit Card Fraud Team) and they will unblock it over the phone for you. This is also the number to contact if you want to tell them of your intension to travel aboard also...

But do they then block your card? Or is it all fine?

I use my Nationwide Card a lot abroad, I never inform them, never had a problem.

Nationwide tells you not to bother notifying them that you are going abroad.

I rang Nationwide last year regarding my bank debit card and was told they didn't need to know as they would honour any payments and sort it out when I got back!!! However, when I rang the CREDIT card for Nationwide they asked me when I was going, where and when I would be back. Seems the bank don't want to know, but the credit card company does??
