    Another positive release - another thread full of people gloating about others being locked out of the property market.

    Lovely.

    whilst i agree with your point... comparing to the 1990s figures is not doing you any favours to make your point. the most number of positive months was 3 i believe and that only happened once. we've just had 6 positve HPI months...

    also, the big falls that you talk about happened in the first couple of years. after 1992 there was virtually no real movement in house prices.

    Within the limited figures provided by Hamish, there was a period of 4 months;

    Feb-92 £51,850 DOWN
    Mar-92 £51,978 UP
    Apr-92 £51,978 UP
    May-92 £52,713 UP
    Jun-92 £52,906 UP
    Jul-92 £52,727 DOWN

    The 90s is used to compare because its the easiest set of stats to find - although we don't even seem to have 89-90 any more...does anyone know where they went...? Would like a reminder of spring 90 figures, as it seemed "the right time"...

    Of course its "going to be different this time", to some degree. But when some posters want us to consider 300 yr-old interest rates - when the abolition of the gold standard makes it a completely different ball-park, or yourself, wanting the 70s house price crash considered, ok it was a big drop from a huge positive, so technically a "crash" - but in which NO negatives occured - so no-one lost anything - affecting sentiment much differently than the 90s and today, then there are going to be weaknesses in any period someone chooses.

    After 16 DOWN figures this time around, using Hamish's list, instead of 5 down, 2 up, 3 down, 1 up etc then is 6 up for a spell that different from 4 up...??

    I didn't see you or Dan saying blimey 15 down in a row, this is something special...but 6 up in a row is unique and important...?

    I remember all the gloating of people trapped in NE on the -2.5% threads last year.

    Did you prefer the negative releases and people gloating about people being in NE/bankrupt?

    I still think that houses are way over priced. Once rates go back up, and taxes, unemployment, etc. I don't know see these claw back gains lasting longer than a decent poster on MSE.
