Tech questions on the Catit Fresh & Clear Small Drinking Fountain 50053

Thinking of buying a cat water fountain

http://www.petsr4u.com/proddetail.asp?prod=50053

Not from this website above, but this fountain (I've found them in Pet Planet for £14.99).

I've used this website as it contains the most tech info;)

Its an AC adaptor, thats one of them big plugs, can they be extended like a normal electric cable? I don't think they can?

Anyone have any idea how long the cables on these things are?

How much noise do they make?

Do they use much electric?

Does your cat like them?

Cats love running/fresh water. I feed mine dried food & apparently this makes them drink more.

I've been umming and aahing over getting one of these for a while. My cat only has dried foodl like yours so it's essential that she has plenty of water. As far as I'm aware there's no problem connecting an AC adaptor to a cable extension - I do it all the time anyway. If any MSE sparkys read this, feel free to condemn me though if it's dangerous!

My only doubt with these water fountains is the noise the make - partly as it may put her off using it, and partly as it may keep me awake at night! Hopefully some FMs with fountains read this thread and can help further.

I've got a freshflow for mine. The cats drink readily from it. It is pretty silent (except for a few moments after I've cleaned it) I change the water once every couple of days and the filter keeps the water clean. There is a resevoir which keeps the bowl full and flowing. The lead is a decent length (2 or 3 feet - I have the excess fastened up on mine but I'll measure it when I change the water later) The transformer plug thing causes it to stand out quite a long way from the wall (11cm).

The boy had problems drinking from anything smaller than a mixing bowl before, but he loves the little fountain in this one and laps up much more water now than he used to do.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

    Hi there,
I have this one http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=363&pf_id=4193 for my cat and she loves it. She definitely does use it. The plug is moulded so it would be difficult to extend but the wire is long enough to stretch across the washer and tumble dryer with a bit to spare.
Its very quiet, the only time it gets noisy is if the water level drops.
I havent noticed any difference in the electricity bill.

I have a NFC and they can be prone to cystitis but mine hasnt had it since we got this over 2 years ago.

That is a good price, mine has replacable filters but they dont cost too much but worth checking if that one needs them

Oh and for cleaning everything apart from the bit with the wire goes in the dishwasher:T

We have the cat water fountain your thinking of buying. Our little boy wasn't drinking nearly enough water with just a bowl on the ground.

I tried measuring the cord, but can't get to it (its all tucked behind the fridge!). We do have it plugged into an extension cord, so you shouldn't have a problem.

It makes a little humming, but don't notice it any more. Will make more noise when the water level drops. I clean ours out once a week and fill it up with fresh water for him.

It took him a few days to get used to his new drinking bowl. The first time he went to it, he stuck his paws in it, then turned around and gave me a look that told me he wasn't impressed . I took away all other sources of water and within a few days he was loving his fountain. He drinks a lot more water now compared to the still water.

We got ours from pets at home

Just had a flyer through the door advertising 10% off at my local Pets At Home (Newport Road, Cardiff) over the bank holiday weekend, so I'll get one of those tomorrow. I'll probably end up buying one of those fancy cat scratching tree/post things I've been admiring for months too, so the 10% off will actually end up costing me more money. I'm a sucker for spoiling my cat ...
