Weed control on paths and crazy paving

Whats the best cheapest way to kill weeds on paths and crazy paving? They are very stubborn and massive dandelions, thistles, grass and all sorts. I'm using sodium chlorate at the moment, only tried it this morning but I can see its going to mean me buying a lot of tubs of it as theres a lot of paving to do. I want them gone

Can I also use this along the privet hedge lightly so it doesnt get to the hedge roots to kill weeds and grass that keeps growing there too?

I also have a really bad spreading thing in my lawn that didn't die when I did it with feed n feed. I haven't a clue what it is but it's taking over, grows about 12 inches high and has a flower. Its taken over metres of lawn :(
Thanx

Coarse ground salt is supposed to be good, I only found this out after I saw the council guys using salt on the edges of path ways and asked them what for.

Apparently apply directly on top andthe weed dies in about a week

you can try andidentify the other weed here

Salt is very good as jules mentions. I mix about half a kilo of cheap table salt in a bucket & use a jug to pour the mixture over all the weeds that pop up over my badly laid paved drive.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

If I tried the salt remedy here, the ruddy weeds would think all their birthdays had come at once - everything's salt tolerant! :D

I find that nothing is better than Pathclear it kills everything for months, but it is very expensive. Tesco sell their own branded version and the ingredients are the same, but it is still quite expensive.

    Thanx,

The coarse salt do you sprinkle it on neat then? Why do you think coarse salt as opposed to ordinary? Do you think dishwasher salt would do the same job? as tesco do a big box in value range. Could work out cheaper than using the other plus it comes in a big box

Have a look at this product, it is available from most Garden Centres.

The link is solely for illustration, I have not purchased from them.

There is a doff factory about 150 yards from me aswell, I dont think they have a factory shop though. Could work out quite expensive to do the amount I want to do but if it lasts 12 months it could be worth it. I have grass growing through the crazy paving too nettles dandelions and they are really strong and stubborn

I've bought the Doff brand & it certainly hasn't kept weeds at bay for 12 months.:o

During the summer months when the weeds are more prolific I use the Wilkinson's brand of path weedkiller, which is pretty good & costs about £4.30for 8 sachet's.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
