First Direct Bank Charges Problem

Hi Guys,
I have a bank account with First Direct that I don't actually use anymore but which has an overdraft that I owe some money to. I was thinking about paying off the overdraft and closing the account as the robbing gits charge £10 a month to keep the bank account unless you pay in about 1000 a month or something. I can't afford to pay in 1000a month so have been paying 10 pound. I can probably afford to pay off the overdraft and close it. My problem is though that in the past I have been charged around £50 a few times for exceeding the overdraft by accident. Even if I went over by a pound or so they charged me. So my question is if I close this bank account will it still be possible to claim these charges back if and when it's finally possible to make a claim? Or should I just keep the account open and pay the £10 a month and wait until I can claim back the charges?
Thanks for any help.
Chris

As far as I know, you can claim on closed accounts.
First Direct were one of the easiest to claim bank charges back from in my experience, but this was about 2 years ago - all changed now !
Someone will give you the exact answer soon !VR repayment £404 £156.02 PAID
Airpods repayment £249 £185 £75.90 PAID
Airpods repayment £144 £99.01 PAID
Capital One £14000 -

Check though whether that £10 is for an account with extras, ie travel insurance,
Sounds like the £10 is the standard fee for a bank account with them if you either don't hold another product with them or don't pay in x amount per month.0 -
I do see what you are saying but unless the OP reveals all we will left in the dark unable to escapeSounds like the £10 is the standard fee for a bank account with them if you either don't hold another product with them or don't pay in x amount per month.

Hi,
Thanks for all your replies. The £10 is just a standard charge for using the bank account, no extras included. For some reason First Direct decided a while back that they were such an amazing bank that they would charge £10 to anyone using one of their account and not paying in a certain amount each month (like £1000 or something).

I have been with FD for around 5 years now and since I have been with them you had to have turnover of £1k per month through the account, a minimum balance of £1k or another product with them otherwise you are charged £10pcm for account.0
