Debts owed to dwp never die & can be claimed from your pension if not repaid beforehand. If not paid before you die then the debt is recoverable from any estate you leave.

Surely you would have known if you had repaid a social fund loan or not? It's not so much the keeping of records, but the certainty in your mind of knowing the debt was cleared. Did you agree a payment plan with dwp for instance, which is what a lot of people do when taking out such a loan. If so then it's easy to work out how much you are paying each month & you know when the debt is cleared.

Usually when you agree a payment plan, dwp will send you a letter letting you know how much they are stopping from your benefit each week/month & how much will be credited to your account after the deduction has been made.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Ask for proof. They must have some or they wouldn't be asking you for it.
IF no joy...write to your MP. Scare them :)

They probably won't bother talking to you, get someone else to talk to them who they will take notice of. CAB maybe enough?
