Double yellow lines

HI

Hoping somebody may be able to answer this. If a road has single yellow lines/parking bays and then double yellow lines before a junction....what is the restriction with being partly on double yellows - is it that no part of the vehicle shoudl overhang onto the double yellows or taht the wheels of the vehicle should not be on the double yellows?

Thanks kesb16

I would have said none of the vehicle should be on double yellows! Cant find anything to say this but the length of vehicles vary so much but I still say the no part of the vehicle should be on double yellows - even overhanging

An Irish friend once told me (no offence meant) so I'll type this with an Irish accent.....

Single yellow line means... NO PARKING at all.

Double yellow lines mean NO PARKING at all, at all!!

Doesn't say anything about the vehicle itself though
    I haven't got one!

Really what it boils down to is common sense!

And common sense says that it's any part of the vehicle, not just the wheels.

I'd say no part of the vehicle, as the overhang on some trucks is longer than small cars. Also this is the view a traffic warden is likely to take, and whether there right or wrong its less hassle to avoid dissputing it in court.

Having said that last bit I hope your not asking because you got a parking ticket allready.

    Hi

    Thanks for all ur replys

No i havent had a ticket, is just something i wanted to clarify. I always thought the whole vehicle had to be clear of it, however somebody recently said to me that it was just the wheels of the vehicle taht shouldnt be on the double yellows.

    Thanks Again

I would have thought it was the whole vehicle. Yellow lines are there to stop vehicles from causing an obstruction and it is any part of a vehicle that can cause an obstruction, not just a wheel.

for example when the yellow lines are across an entrance to a driveway or something, the wheels could be back from the line but with the bonnet hanging over and it would still block the entrance. Same goes with parking near a corner, the front of the car would be obstructing the view which is the whole point of having the lines in the first place.

Definetly the whole car, not just the wheels.
