Pinchng out Runner Beans

Why do sites tell you to pinch out runner beans when they have reached the end of the canes. What does this do? I am assuming it keeps them flowering.

    It stops them growing over your canes, it also encourages them to throw out side shoots, which will grow more beans.
    Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
