Hi all,
techie question here: would it be possible to see the raw data used used by Martin and the team in putting together articles and comparisons?
There's a trend in some parts of the web towards making data available for any developer, designer or interested person to look at and use. The Guardian's Data Store (http://www.guardian.co.uk/open-platform) is probably one of the biggest examples of this, you can freely access the data they've researched on things like the bank bailouts and migration.
By making it available to all, anyone can explore the data, make mashups with other information on the web or visualisations of it. Have a look at the graphs people have made at http://www.flickr.com/groups/guardiandatastore/pool/ for some examples.
I'm asking MSE towers about this because there's some really insightful articles on the site and great research (like the split ticketing - genius!) and I imagine there's some spreadsheets full of data behind them. If some of the MSE team's numbers were out there for everyone to use it would let more people see what they could find in them, hopefully coming up with some novel and interesting way of presenting them or finding things that weren't originally seen.
What do you think?
Cheers,
