  • Hello,
I'm in exactly the same situation, however I contacted my bank abbey national and they advised to speak with them after the event was due to finish (Tuesday 1/9/09). They advised me that as I had paid with my visa electron card (which holds the visa logo), my purchase is covered by visa... I will keep you informed as to how this goes. My advice to you as a fellow bear, is to give your bank's customer services department a call. Good luck!
  • you should be covered by section 75 of the consumer credit act. this covers purchases on a credit card which are over £100.

more info on section 75 and your rights can be found within an article on this site (do a search for "section 75" )

you may need to remind your credit card provider of their responsibility / duty re section 75 as some seem rather absent minded on occassions with regard to this vital clause.
  • Same happened to me. Some info about claiming back is available on this website:

They also have a Facebook group.
  • i'm not certain i agree with most of the stuff on that website / facebook.

    consumer law states the following

  • Section 75 protection does not apply to debit cards.

Section 75 protection does not apply to debit cards.

No, but Visa voluntarily operate the same rules for their Debit cards (via 'Chargebacks') as they have to by law (under Section 75) for their credit cards.

However, unfortunately I'm not sure that's going to help in this case because (as ashowrthm says), there is a lower limit of £100, and my understanding is that applies per item, not for the total transaction amount. So even if the purchaser had used a credit card, because the tickets each cost less than £100, Section 75 wouldn't apply anyhow.

Still worth giving it a shot with VISA though to see what they say - you've got nothing to lose
