Please help - computer freezes within minutes of turnon

Hi

Having problems with my vista dell laptop. Everytime I turn it it freezes within minutes - does not respond. I cant even get task manager up and have to manually shut the whole thing it down.

I think its when im connectedto the internet only as when i log in on safe mode without networking it doesnt seem to freeze.

Im logged onto someone elses computer right not typing this.
I've searched the forum and have so far tried superantispyware (which found 76 tracking cookies - now deleted) and malwarebytes which deleted 3 viruses. Still no joy. Will post a hijack this log from my laptop after this if i can do it within the time it lets me on!

If anyone could adive id be really grateful. My dissertation is due in in a month so i really need my laptop to be working!!

Do you have updates turned on,
its possible that one of the recent updates hasn't installed properly or is causing the problems, if you never had this problem when you first got it.
would it be possible for you to back up your data and use the built in factory restore that all DELL's come with. Which will take it back to the day you got it and remove all those newly installed updates. Of course that would be after you have run the hijackthis log file.
what antivirus have you got, the ones you've mentioned are only for spyware / trojans.

What I found was causing mine to freeze was a little nasty in the startup.
I ran msconfig and unticked the offending programme and that cured it.
I had to do it in safe mode

Hi Andy, thanks for your response.
I have avast, but i just took it off as some other forums suggested it could be that. Will be putting it back on again though as its made no difference.

Bit worried about the BHO: Wormradar.com ??? - is this a worm?

As a last resort I could turn it back to factory settings, though, stupidly I have nothing backed up since my USB pen died, so would have to do that first.

Well in the sense that is was totally unrecognisable as anything. Even google didn't come up with an answer so I reckoned I would be safe enough to disable it from the start up - and I did and it seems to have worked.

Wormradar has no file and can be deleted.

I think you need to do a clean boot and find programme causing problem , do it in safe mode if working normally.
