Currency in Turkey

I was told that in Turkey they love the Euro so will it be cheaper to buy over there with Euros or Turkey Lira and also what are their rates compared to the pound?

I usually take some Lira with the rest in sterling, all 'hard' currencies are freely accepted in my experience.

So now Euro, US Dollar or GB pound are easy to spend, prices are most often in euro's though.

I found little benefit from one currency to another.
  • We were in Marmaris around 4 weeks ago. We took some Turkish Lira, some Sterling and a Nationwide Debit card.
Turkish Lira seemed to be the preferred currency although we paid for some trips with Sterling.
The exchange rate was certainly better using the cash machines at the large supermarket than they were to change Sterling or traveller's cheques.
If we were going to Turkey in the future, we would take enough Turkish Lira for the first couple of days and then use the cashpoints (which will give you Sterling, Euro or Lira).

If your not going for a few weeks keep your eye on the rate in Thomas cook only they keep doing special promotions on the turkish lira, but of course the nationwide card is normally the best unless of course the rate drops whilst you are on holiday, then you should have bought it before you went.
