  • Thank you so much guys!!!! it hasn't been easy, but it's done now!

I'm sorry i didn't reply yesterday, i literally posted the thread and got a call from my brother asking me to meet him at his place because him and his gf had just been rearended whilst sat in a traffic jam. Thankfully they are both fine, just nasty cases of whiplash all around, so i left them with lots of painkillers and a chinese after spending 4 hours in A&E lol.

Anyway, back to MY news!!! lol

I was £4k+ in debt last October when i had my LBM, so it's taken me 10 months to clear it! But i also opened an ISA and thats up to £2k now (i know i shouldn't have, but i hadn't read Martin's "paying off debts with savings" article lol) so really i've made £6k in 10 months!

I can honestly say i wouldn't even be halfway there yet without this site! Especially the folks on the "make £10 a day" threads! They were truely a wealth of knowledge!

I did everything i could to save money, dropped a rung on my mobile tariff, recycled old mobiles that no longer worked or i'd lost the charger, sold any that still had boxes, sold stuff on ebay/amazon mostly Uni books &dvds, joined up to every survey site going, check petrolprices.com daily to get the cheapest diesel, reclaimed an old teacher pension i'd paid nearly a £1k into in a previous life, snowballed my debts to make sure everything at crazy APRs was paid off first and everything else transferred to 0%, I basically cut all unnecessary spending, even now if i got out with the Mrs or the folks I have to have a voucher in my hand, paying full price for anything just seems so wrong! lol. And yesterday i made my final £250 payment to my student overdraft!!!!! I even printed off my statement and ran round the house like a loon coz it finally said nil!!!!!! lol

The plan now is to get myself a house, thats what the ISA is for, so hopefully i'll have a big deposit, and then i can join the MFWs lol.

And the little savings account i have on the side, is for bits and pieces that you can't budget for, like today i'm going to the dentist for a filling that'll be £75 (have to have white ones, can't stand the metals ones) but he thinks i'll need an extraction too so that'll be another £30+. Plus i used it to save for my holiday, that way when i had £250 i could book it using my credit card (for protection incase the operators go bust/loose the booking etc) but then immediately clear the balance of my credit card using the savings, clever eh?

Only one bad thing about yesterday is although i became debt free, i officially starting repaying my student loan, a whole £24 a month  I worked out that it would take 38 years to pay off my £10k!!!!! i can't be havin that!!!! lol
