Do you know what temperature your CPU is running at? There is software if Acer didn't give you any that can tell you.

How long have you had this problem? I had the same issue with the temp warning beep only to find the bios setting was too low for the chip type. But find out first what the temperature is and what the CPU temp should be first.

Battery life goes down hill if they get overheated. you don't have the right to a replacment, the manufacturer may do so, but legally they only need to repair it.

Can you hear the fan running?

How are you using it? Balanced on your lap is likely to be blocking the air vents.

A frequent problem is the fan being choked with dust which can be cleared using an air duster (aerosol can with propellent only).

thanks for the replies, how do we find out what the temperature pf the pcu is and what it should be? We do use it on our laps but make sure the vents are clear.

Try SpeedFan or Motherboard Monitor. A review in PC Advisor said that the battery of the Acer 5720 lasted less than 1½ hours, when new. The CPU would appear to be an Intel Core Duo T7300 for which the maximum temperature is given as 100°C.
