  • thank you all for all the advice,i'll try quoting the sale of goods act,the laptop was purchased in march through Amazon with a 6 month warrenty.failling that i have a friend whos hubby likes to take computers apart (hes not an expert but i think he wont mind putting a new motherboard in for ash,if i make him lots of coffees and carrot cake and if he knows how to do it-hes not a bad soul!).
I'll look on ebay too for some motherboards just incase.
A dvd drive isnt a nessesity but i think a cd drive would be for putting her new cds into itunes, she likes to play with them on her cd players and they get dammaged alot so im always burning new copies from Itunes,so i guess that rules out netbooks.
Had a wee look in comet too as davester suggests and saw a few reasonable priced ones (with similer specs as advised) so if all else fails there is that.

im not all that computer friendly,i know how to do the basics but everything else is beyond me so thanks very much again for all the usefull advice given.
I shall let you know how i get on.
All I can do is be me, whoever that is

(PS. With a User Name like yours, you really should get a Mac. :) )

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.
