Just moved in...

I've just moved in to a small flat and need to look at sorting out who I want to supply my electricity. It seems that the previous tennant was using Npower as I have letters address to 'the occupier' telling me I need to contact them in order to avoid them cutting the power.

What i'd like to know if in the likely event of me wanting to go with somone else do I need to sign up with Npower first then transfer or can I just go and sign with somone else?

The moment you use any electricity or gas you are on a legally binding 'deemed contract' with Npower.

The letter addressed to 'The occupier' is the correct method of contacting you.

You should have read the meter when you moved it and contacted Npower with those readings and your details - otherwise you might find yourself paying for the previous occupants electricity.

You can then take steps to switch to the supplier of your choice, although the process takes some weeks to complete.

    Hello huwwatkins

You will just need to let us know at npower that you have moved in as we are currently supplying the gas and/or electricity. Once a new account has been set up for the energy you are using, you will then be free to switch to a new supplier.

There are a number of price comparison websites you can look at to see which supplier (and tariff) is best for you needs:
You can try uswitch (http://www.uswitch.com/gas-electricity/) - this is an impartial website and is simple to use.

Do let me know if I can be of any more help!

    Best wishes,
