Paypal payment pending

I won an auction on 14th Aug and paid for the item via Paypal the same day, I have not received the item and have just checked Paypal and the payment is still showing as pending even though it shows up on my bank statements. I have contacted the seller to ask if the item has been posted as it is recorded delivery but he has not replied. How long should I wait before contacting ebay? I have won auctions since this and already received the items and am now starting to get a bit worried.

I'd say you have waited plenty of time.

But I'm not sure what the pending means - it could be an echeque, or it could be a screwup at the seller's end.

If it's an echeque, then it's a payment that will take longer than normal to clear, so there will be a delay.

    Anyone know the difference?

it could be an echq - in which case the seller would have had an email to indicate the clearance date and should have communicated this to you 0r the seller has not accepted the payment into her paypal account yet and thinks you havent paid ( not sure why this happens but sometimes when there is an erroe on the sellers email address , it does)
contact the seller again and if nothing within 48 hours, see if you can cancel the payment within paypal - just go into transaction and see if the option is there to do this. And try to resend

If your seller hasn't replied and you have been waiting 2 weeks an echeque should have cleared after 7 days. I would open an item not received dispute via paypal. It might wake the seller up to actually respond to you

Thanks for the responses, the payment was made from my bank account. I will contact the seller again today.

This happened to me recently, where I made a payment and it was left pending for a few days.

My seller asked to be paid by Paypal but didn't actually have a Paypal account

This may be that some new sellers think that their Paypal and Ebay accounts are automatically linked.

I pointed this out to my seller and the payment went through within the next 24 hours.

This may be what has happened in your case, it's worth checking out.
