  • I cant wait for Sony to release the PS3. Only at that point can a true features versus cost comparison of the next gen consoles be done.
The Sony will have a Blu Ray drive as standard so it will more than likely push the launch price up. Perhaps a fair comparison would be PS3 with Blu Ray against an XBOX360 with its HD-DVD addon. The launch price may be skewed down by Sony depending on how well stand alone BluRay is doing at the time against HD-DVD.

The decision to switch the Xbox 360's processor for an enhanced, most likely more powerful and less power-hungry version may be seen as a sign of increasing competitive pressure the console may receive from Sony's upcoming Playstation 3. ...

However, MS has confirmed that the update won't affect performance - nobody in their right mind would ever fragment a console market in this way.

Actually, they said the premium PS3 version will be around £250 :)

Sony have just annouced the pricing.

    $499 with a 20gb hard drive.
    $599 with a 60gb hard drive.

The Euro prices are the same so at the current exchange rate that works out at £341 and £409. Will they round them up or down? If down £339 and £399 sounds likely.

The controller is also not the silly banana shaped one they showed previously but a wireless unit continuing the dual shock theme but updated. It also contains tilt technology to sense motion although not as advanced as Nintendo's. It looks leik they have had to drop the rumble feature though as it interferes with the motion technology.

i say buy both, and then play on them for 2 or 3 months solid, and then just stop and have them as book ends or something. That's what I always do cause I never learn.

They said on Radio 1 this morning that it would be £350 - so I guess that would be the price for the 20GB model?

Assuming it comes with the tilt-sensing controller and has wireless networking built in (which you pay extra for on the 360), I would say the price is OK but it will put a lot of people off (and I guess force MS to drop their price to £200/or add value - like bundling the HD-DVD drive, etc.).
